Town of Custer nearby with souvenir shops & a brewery worth visiting (the “Pounding Fathers” 🤣). Quiet & courteous neighbors (except the one couple with the barking dogs!) Tons of families, with kids running & playing & swimming… decent pool, basketball court, playground, even a sluice box (purchase bags of dirt in the camp store & let your kids “mine” for gems & fossils!Įasy drive to Rushmore. (Big, grassy, tucked back up into rolling hills & valleys.)įriendly, hands on staff. "Best yet! Spectacular setting, beautiful grassy pull through sites with shade trees, picnic tables, fire pits, full hook-ups… store, bathrooms, laundry room etc clean, cute, well kept. Stumps to sit on and enjoy the view and stars." A mowed hiking trail up it would be very nice. There is a lovely hill to hike up with a great view. Very fair rates ($ for 2 adults and 3 kids) Very easy to access from Mt Rushmore. Store is well stocked and laundry is easy to use though it could be open later. Swings are tearing and aged, playhouse roof is pretty much gone etc. ($ for a bag of jewels or fossils for them to pan) Playground could use some upgrades. Sluice is unique and fun for the kids to pan for jewels. WiFi at camp sights leaves a lot to be desired. It even has laundry facilities to wash and dry your clothes" It has full hookups and alot of spots, surrounded by beautiful hills and scenery. The showers and bathrooms are the cleanest we have ever seen. The office people are so nice and make you feel welcome. "My husband and I stayed at this campground for 3 nights and it is the nicest campground we have ever been to! It is tucked back in and nice and cozy spots. Sites are arranged in three loops (Appaloosa, Buckskin, and Cayuse), and you have plenty of pion pines, juniper trees, and blackbrush separating you and your neighbors. With 90 sites, the campground can accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs during the busiest of seasons. Mount Rushmore is right down the road so is Custer State Park and also Crazy Horse Memorial and many other's. Horsethief Campground is one of Moab’s largest. Oh and this campground is right in the middle of everything you would want to do/see. I really liked that they have laundry on sight, helps with those long trips out. The campground was very nice and clean staff were so kind and helpful. The deer came in 3 different time's to say hello, my kid's loved it. Sunny Monday, temperatures as high as 29C85F, low temperature around 14C58F, wind out of the SE 16 km/h10 mph. "Me and my family spent 5 nights in our old pop-up camper, we were on lot had great views from our sight it's kinda tucked back and more private. Rushmore & Hill City is very close for supplies. These lands are relatively undeveloped, offering very scenic views with little noise or distractions. This 260-acre, IDFG-owned and operated reservoir is surrounded by pine forests and granite-capped mountains. It was the closest camping I could find to Mt. Horsethief Reservoir is located approximately 75 miles north of Boise and 9 miles east of Cascade, Idaho. The scenery is great & the owners were nice people. My Family, Friends, & I have stayed here many times, and Loved it every time. "This Campground is at the heart of the Black Hills.
